Quext: Designing a Resident App for Smarter Living

Quext is a proptech company focused on making multifamily living smarter, simpler and more human centered. Klika Tech serves as Quext’s R&D consulting partner, helping design and build the technology behind a new generation of resident facing solutions. The project discussed centers on the Quext resident app experience and the platform behind it.

The challenge was clear. Modern residents expect a seamless digital experience that matches the quality of the physical property. They want to manage access, payments, comfort and communication from a single place instead of juggling multiple apps, portals and paper processes. Property owners need a secure and scalable platform that supports this, without creating operational overhead or complex integrations at each community.

Our joint innovation delivers a unified resident app that connects front end usability with a modern, cloud native back end and integrated IoT stack. Through one intuitive interface, residents can view and pay rent, submit maintenance requests, communicate with property staff, manage digital access and interact with smart home devices where available. The experience is designed around real resident journeys, not around internal system boundaries.

Klika Tech worked with Quext to design a modular architecture that separates concerns into well-defined services. This allows the platform to integrate with existing property management systems, access control solutions and third-party tools while keeping the resident experience consistent across communities. New features can be rolled out without disrupting core operations at the properties.

User experience was a primary focus. The app was redesigned through a combination of user research, UX workshops and iterative prototyping. The result is a layout that is simple for first time users yet powerful enough for daily use. Key actions such as paying rent, opening doors, or submitting a maintenance ticket are only a few taps away. The information hierarchy and visual design keep residents oriented and reduces friction across common tasks.

Security and privacy are built into the design. The solution uses strong authentication and authorization controls, and sensitive operations such as digital access are handled through secure channels with appropriate safeguards. At the same time, the system remains flexible enough to support different property policies and hardware configurations.

From an operational standpoint, the platform gives property managers a clearer view of engagement and issues across their portfolio. Maintenance requests arrive with structured data, which speeds up triage and response. Messaging channels are unified, so teams can see conversations in context instead of scrolling through disjointed email threads and notes. Over time this supports better service quality and more efficient use of on-site staff.

The innovation is not just the app itself. It is the combination of resident centric design, modern cloud architecture and practical integration with existing property systems and IoT devices.
