What motivated your company to participate in the Global Tech Awards?

Our motivation for participating in the Global Tech Awards stems from our desire to showcase Momentick’s cutting-edge technology to a global audience. Momentick provides accurate, autonomous solutions for detecting and quantifying methane and other greenhouse gas emissions on a planetary scale. Utilizing proprietary algorithms across satellite imagery, our platform delivers precise monitoring for individual facilities as well as expansive, wide-area monitoring that covers entire regions and pipeline networks.

Could you share an overview of the project or innovation your company submitted?

Our project centers on addressing the critical challenge of methane emissions, a potent yet invisible greenhouse gas primarily found in natural gas. Methane’s lack of visibility allows leaks to go undetected, leading to significant revenue loss, exposure to regulatory fines, and accelerated global warming, as it traps heat 84 times more effectively than CO₂ and accounts for around 21% of total GHG emissions. As part of global climate efforts, the Global Methane Pledge aims for a 30% reduction in methane emissions by 2030, which could reduce warming by 0.2 degrees by 2050. Methane emissions, particularly from oil and gas infrastructure, remain largely unmonitored and underreported. In the U.S. alone, out of 300,000 oil and gas wells and over 2 million miles of pipelines, fewer than 10% undergo regular leak inspections, with methane leaks estimated to be 60% higher than EPA figures. Approximately 630,000 leaks in U.S. natural gas distribution pipelines alone contribute to global warming and substantial revenue loss each year. Our solution enables industry stakeholders, governments, and international organizations to gain actionable insights, bridging the data gap and supporting effective methane mitigation on a global scale.

How has your team worked together to bring this innovation to life?

Our team’s journey in bringing this innovation to life is rooted in a shared commitment to leveraging technology for global climate solutions. In 2022, our founding team—Daniel Kashmir as CEO, Lev Oren as COO, and Dr. Ophir Almog as Chief Scientist—combined their expertise in AI and computer vision to develop a groundbreaking algorithm. Recognizing the potential to apply this technology across various sectors, we chose to focus on climate impact, channeling our efforts toward emissions detection via imagery to address what we believe is the most urgent challenge of our time.

What impact do you anticipate your innovation will have on the tech industry or society at large?

By enabling such precise detection and verification, our technology empowers industries, governments, and environmental organizations to address methane emissions effectively. We believe that widespread adoption of this innovation will lead to more transparent reporting, actionable insights, and ultimately, a meaningful reduction in greenhouse gases—benefiting both the tech industry and society in the global fight against climate change.

Are there any specific challenges you faced during the development process, and how did you overcome them?

A major challenge we encountered last year was ensuring the accuracy and reliability of our satellite data across varied environmental conditions. To address this, we invested in advanced machine learning models to fine-tune our algorithms, enabling them to adapt more effectively. Additionally, we conducted extensive field validations, comparing our satellite data against ground-based measurements to ensure consistency. This comprehensive approach not only increased the precision of our emissions detection but also built greater credibility and trust in our technology among clients.

How does your company foster a culture of innovation?

At our company, fostering a culture of innovation is rooted in our commitment to harnessing advanced satellite technology to generate impactful insights into methane emissions. What sets us apart is our development and use of proprietary algorithms on satellite imagery, enabling extensive coverage that spans vast geographical regions or entire pipeline networks. This innovative approach not only allows us to monitor methane emissions at scale but also provides deep, actionable insights that drive meaningful impact in emissions detection and reduction. Through this continuous innovation, we’re setting new standards for comprehensive emissions intelligence.

What advice would you give to other companies striving to make an impact in the tech space?

Embracing AI is essential for any company aiming to make a lasting impact in the tech space. AI can significantly enhance the precision of your technology and, in many cases, enable autonomous functionality, driving efficiency and scalability.

What are your company’s future goals, and how do you plan to drive advancements in your industry?

Our future goals center on transforming how the industry addresses undetected emissions, particularly those from oil and gas assets, which remain a significant and largely unmonitored issue. At Momentick, we believe that "If you can’t measure it, you can’t reduce it.” Our emissions intelligence platform enables energy companies to accurately measure their emissions, empowering them to take effective action toward reduction. Looking ahead, we aim to drive advancements in emissions monitoring by continually refining our technology to deliver even greater accuracy and scalability, helping industry stakeholders, governments, and organizations make measurable progress in emission reduction and climate impact.

Are there any emerging technologies or trends your company is particularly excited about?

We’re particularly excited about expanding our emissions intelligence capabilities through a highly adaptable algorithm that serves as the foundation for our future goals. Our next steps involve broadening our focus to monitor not only methane but also other harmful gasses. While methane poses a critical challenge with immediate benefits for climate change mitigation, addressing a wider range of emissions is essential for comprehensive climate impact. Our commitment goes beyond methane, targeting a full spectrum of harmful gasses to contribute meaningfully to global emissions reduction efforts.
